Mignolo addresses here the relationship between colonialism and modernity through the concept of transmodernity, also linked to the category of decolonial cosmopolitanism, associated by the author to organizations and individual activists who struggle for an emancipatory and heterogeneous thinking, giving a significant place to museums of contemporary art.
I think this is a particularly interesting argument for us. In my own experience, I disagree with this ” redemptive ” vision of contemporary art, because despite it has a certain “autonomy”, the museum has been and remains one of the most powerful machines of modern ideology, certainly one of the main spearheads of the homogenization of knowledge and gazes.
