Paula Barreiro López’s book Avant-garde Art and Criticism in Francoist Spain (Liverpool University Press) is a contribution to the history of Spanish art in the twentieth century. It surveys the shifts in the aesthetic discourse and artistic practices that decisively influenced the shaping of the avant-garde during Franco’s dictatorship (1939-1975).
Researcher Julia Ramírez Blanco will give the conference “Utopias of Revolt: Reading activist aesthetics through the lens of the social dream”, Wednesday 18 January, 1 p.m at the Facultad de Geografía e Historia de la Universitat de Barcelona.

Until August 15, 2016, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid presents an important exhibition of Wifredo Lam (Sagua La Grande, 1902 – Paris, 1982), covering multiple aspects of the trajectory of the Cuban artist. The exhibition catalogue includes an essay by Paula Barreiro López.
